Merthyr Park
New Farm, Queensland
We were excited to read the brief for Merthyr Park. With the playground being next to the Brisbane River, Brisbane City Council requested a company that could construct and design a nautical theme. We put pen to paper and sketched a bespoke boat and our carpenters set to work.
The name Merthyr is Welsh, and comes from the town Merthyr Tydfil, the birthplace of Sir Samuel Walker Griffith (1845-1920), Chief Justice and Premier. So we decided to call the boat ‘The Merthyr Tydfil’.
We added lots of play value and asked local artist Mark to paint a colourful peep hole panel .
